Producer Rajan Shahi Releases Statement Regarding Accident on ‘Anupamaa’ Set

Producer Rajan Shahi Breaks Silence on Camera Assistant’s Death on ‘Anupamaa’ Set

Producer Rajan Shahi has finally addressed the tragic incident involving the death of a camera assistant on the set of Anupamaa, after the individual succumbed to electrocution. In an official statement released by his production house, Director’s Kut Productions, Shahi described the incident as a “purely human error.”

The statement begins by highlighting the longstanding success of the production company, which has been entertaining audiences for 18 years with popular family shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Bidaai, and Anupamaa. The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for its team of over 300 professionals, who are considered an integral part of the production’s family.

Regarding the fatal accident that occurred on November 14, 2024, during filming at Film City, the statement explained that an apprentice camera assistant, Mr. Ajit Kumar, was sent by the camera vendor. While on set, he mistakenly handled both a light rod and a camera while not wearing footwear, resulting in an electric shock. The Director of Photography present on set confirmed that the incident was due to human error. Despite immediate medical assistance and hospitalization, Mr. Kumar tragically passed away.

In response, the production company arranged for his family to be flown in from Patna, covered all medical expenses, and facilitated the family’s return home. Additionally, compensation was provided, and the family expressed their gratitude in a letter. Mr. Kumar’s insurance payout will be directly disbursed to his nominated beneficiary.

The statement reaffirmed that safety remains a top priority for the production house, and emphasized their ongoing commitment to supporting their team. Shahi concluded by urging those spreading false rumors about the incident to cease, warning of legal action if necessary.

The production house also shared that they have kept key industry bodies—including the Producers Guild of India, the Indian Film and Television Producers Council, and others—fully informed about the situation.
