Shekhar Suman Reflects on Katrina Kaif’s Evolution in Bollywood: “From ‘Boom’ Struggles to Iconic Performances”
Shekhar Suman is reveling in the acclaim of “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” where he portrays Nawab Zulfikar in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali production, featuring his son Adhyayan Suman in a pivotal role. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Suman shared insights into his experience working with the esteemed filmmaker and a stellar cast, reflecting on the trajectories of actors in the industry.
Discussing Katrina Kaif’s journey, he remarked, “Take a cue from others’ journeys. Look at Katrina Kaif. When she debuted in ‘Boom,’ she struggled with her lines, couldn’t stand, or even dance. Yet, observe where she has reached. Her performances in ‘Rajneeti’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ showcase her evolution. Even in ‘Dhoom 3,’ one couldn’t recognize the same girl who started her career like that. It’s a journey familiar to many.”
Suman also acknowledged Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday, saying, “Deepika Padukone has evolved into a remarkable actress. Ananya Panday faced criticism until ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan.’ You must face it with resilience and humor.”
Previously, in a conversation with Indian Express, Suman drew inspiration from cinematic legends Dilip Kumar and Aamir Khan, emphasizing the importance of waiting for the right roles. “I am primarily a theatre actor. It’s not a comeback; it’s about waiting for the right role. Like Dilip Kumar sahab, who would do one film every few years, or Aamir Khan, they preserve themselves in a way that keeps the audience eager to watch them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the makers have announced the second season of “Heeramandi.”
