‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ to Highlight Congress’ ‘Dictatorial Mindset,’ Says BJP

The BJP stated that the annual observance of June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ will serve as a reminder of the Congress’ “dictatorial mindset” and honor those who suffered and sacrificed during the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government nearly 50 years ago.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the government’s decision to commemorate June 25, the day Emergency was declared in 1975, as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas,’ recognizing the significant contributions of those who endured immense hardships during that period.

Defence Minister and former BJP president Rajnath Singh emphasized the enduring memory of the Emergency’s repressive impact on Indian democracy. He underscored that the declaration of ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ by the Centre aims to remind the nation of the assault on the Constitution during the Emergency and to honor the bravery of those who defended democratic rights despite suffering imprisonment and torture.

Union Minister and BJP chief JP Nadda described June 25, 1975, as a “black day” when Indira Gandhi’s “dictatorial mindset” led to the imposition of Emergency, an act he likened to an assault on democracy enshrined in the Constitution. He expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for instituting this annual reminder of the importance of democracy.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha hailed the government’s decision as historic, challenging the Congress to respond to whether its leaders, like Rahul Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh, would welcome or oppose this commemoration. Sinha criticized the Congress for its past and present approach to governance, accusing it of perpetuating an authoritarian mindset.

This initiative by the BJP underscores its efforts to highlight historical events and shape public perception about democratic principles and governance in India.
