Rishabh Pant: Anxiety About Being Seen in a Wheelchair Kept Me from Going to the Airport

Surviving a Near-Fatal Accident, Rishabh Pant Opens Up About Reluctance to Face Public in Wheelchair

Rishabh Pant, the dynamic Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has shared his hesitance to visit the airport following a life-threatening car crash in December 2022. Pant, now 26, suffered severe injuries in the accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.

Though he miraculously survived, the injuries necessitated major knee surgery and extensive rehabilitation, an experience Pant has candidly discussed.

“The accident reshaped my life. When I regained consciousness, I wasn’t certain if I’d make it, but I’m grateful for divine intervention,” Pant revealed on “Dhawan Karenge,” a talk show hosted by fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

“I couldn’t bring myself to go to the airport, fearing the scrutiny while in a wheelchair. For two months, even simple tasks like brushing my teeth were a challenge. The pain persisted for six to seven months,” Pant recounted.

Despite the ordeal, Pant made a triumphant return to cricket after 14 months, showcasing glimpses of his formidable talent in the recently concluded IPL.
