Punjab Farmers End Protest in Chandigarh After CM’s Assurance on Demands

Farmers protesting against the perceived delay in implementing Punjab’s new agriculture policy ended their strike on Friday. This decision followed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s assurance that a draft of the policy would be shared with them by September 30. Additionally, CM Mann committed to incorporating their suggestions before finalizing the policy.

On Thursday, CM Mann held a two-hour meeting with leaders from the Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union, which spearheaded the protest, to address their concerns.

The farmers, represented by the Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) and the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union, had begun their five-day protest on Sunday, demanding the implementation of the new agriculture policy.

Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan stated that they had requested the state government to make the agriculture policy public. He added that the government assured them the policy would be finalized and shared by September 30.
