Puducherry Government School Transformed into Herbal Garden

Schools play a crucial role in children’s lives, but a government school in Puducherry is currently standing out for its unique transformation into an herb garden.

Historically, government schools in Puducherry faced issues like inadequate ventilation, limited toilets, and insufficient space. However, significant improvements have been made, with government schools now surpassing private schools in infrastructure.

The ML Poongavana Chettiar Government Primary School in Kalapet exemplifies this change. It boasts smart TVs in every classroom, a rooftop dining area, and a special herb and vegetable garden. This transformation is the result of collaborative efforts among teachers, parents, and students, who have worked together to enhance the school’s facilities.

Previously a barren space, the school now thrives as a green environment with over 50 herbal plants and more than 100 types of vegetables. Drip irrigation systems have been introduced to support farming, drawing considerable attention.

Teachers at the school are also incorporating naturopathy education into the curriculum, teaching students about herbal plants and their uses through daily lessons. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of both educators and students, this government school has successfully evolved into a vibrant herb garden.
