Paris Paralympics: Archer Sheetal Devi Scores an Impressive 703, Just One Point Shy of Setting a New World Record

In the end, as it often does at the highest level, it all came down to a single arrow. Just a few centimeters. One 9 amidst a sea of 10s and bull’s eyes. The two archers, who are favorites for the Women’s Individual Compound Open title at the Paris Paralympics, pushed each other to the limit during the qualification rounds.

India’s Sheetal Devi delivered a stunning performance, scoring 703 out of a possible 720. But Turkey’s Oznur Cure went one better in the final end of six arrows, finishing with a score of 704. Both archers surpassed the existing World Record of 698, but it was Cure who set the new global standard on a day of extraordinary shooting by the two top contenders.
