Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Friday as a significant milestone for Delhi’s development ahead of inaugurating several key projects in the capital.

“Today is an important day for Delhi’s development. At a programme in Ashok Vihar, I will be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a wide range of development works, which will enhance the ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Delhi,” PM Modi announced on X (formerly Twitter).
The prime minister is set to inaugurate a series of projects, including 1,675 newly constructed flats for residents of JJ (Jhuggi Jhopri) clusters in Ashok Vihar, the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar, General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, and the Integrated Office Complex for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at Dwarka.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for three major projects at Delhi University, collectively worth ₹600 crore. These include the Eastern Campus at Surajmal Vihar, the Western Campus at Dwarka, and the Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, which will feature state-of-the-art facilities.
However, the naming of Veer Savarkar College has sparked political controversy. The Congress has criticized the BJP for “glorifying those who submitted mercy petitions to the British,” while the BJP has accused the opposition of “insulting great people” as part of its identity.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the BJP, has been vocal in defending Savarkar’s legacy. Meanwhile, Delhi University’s student politics adds another dimension, as the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) is currently led by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), affiliated with the Congress.
