IPL Chairman Confirms Start Date for IPL 2024: March 22

Indian Premier League (IPL) Likely to Kick Off on March 22, Confirms IPL Chairman.

Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has announced that the 17th season of the cricket extravaganza is expected to commence on March 22. This revelation, made on Tuesday, sets the stage for the much-anticipated tournament.

“We are aiming to commence IPL 2024 from March 22,” stated Arun Dhumal, as reported by PTI.

The proposed start date aligns with earlier speculations and comes just five days after the conclusion of the Women’s Premier League. IPL 2024 is anticipated to run until May 26, providing a brief preparation window for the Indian cricket team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, slated to commence on June 2 in the US and the Caribbean. India’s first match in the T20 World Cup is scheduled for June 5 against Ireland.

However, this IPL season is poised to overlap with the Lok Sabha elections, typically held from April to May. In previous instances, IPL matches had to be relocated overseas due to clashes with general elections.

Earlier in January, Cricbuzz reported the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) optimism about hosting all matches within the nation, known for its fervent cricket culture. However, finalizing the schedule hinges on the announcement of election dates.

According to Brand Finance, IPL has achieved a significant milestone, becoming a “decacorn,” with its combined brand value surging by 28% to reach $10.7 billion. Since its inception in 2008, the IPL system has witnessed a remarkable 433% increase in overall brand value.

Arun Dhumal had previously speculated that IPL’s media rights value could skyrocket to an astonishing $50 billion over the next 20 years.
