Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has certainly stirred up the entertainment scene since its debut on May 1, drawing praise for the performances of actors like Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. However, the series has also sparked controversy surrounding Sharmin Segal’s portrayal of Alamzeb, with some internet users accusing her of benefiting from nepotism due to her relationship with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Segal, who plays Alamzeb in the series, has faced criticism for her performance, with some claiming she lacked expression and did not suit the role. This backlash has prompted Segal to disable comments on one of her Instagram posts featuring herself and Bhansali at the Heeramandi premiere in Los Angeles.
Negative reactions flooded the comments section of a previous post by Segal from a magazine shoot, with users expressing disappointment in her performance as Alamzeb. Despite this, Segal has been active in the industry since her debut in the 2019 film Malaal, also produced by Bhansali Productions. Addressing the issue of nepotism during Malaal’s trailer launch, Segal acknowledged its presence in the industry but emphasized the importance of hard work for all actors, regardless of their connections.
Apart from Heeramandi and Malaal, Segal has appeared in the 2022 film Atithi Bhooto Bhava alongside actors Pratik Gandhi and Jackie Shroff. Despite the criticism, Segal continues to pursue her acting career and remains active in the film industry.
