“Govinda’s Wife Sunita Ahuja Questions Intent Behind Incident, Says: ‘If I Fired, It Would Be at the Chest’”

Actor Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg with his licensed revolver in October last year. Reflecting on the incident during an appearance on The Great Kapil Show, he shared how Shilpa Shetty had jokingly asked if his wife, Sunita Ahuja, was responsible for the mishap. In a recent interview, Sunita opened up about her reaction to the incident and the family’s response.

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Sunita humorously remarked, “Govinda told only half the story. I told Shilpa that if I had pulled the trigger, I wouldn’t have aimed for his leg—I would’ve aimed for his chest. Kaam karo toh poora karo, nahi toh mat karo (If you’re doing something, do it properly or don’t do it at all).”

Recounting the day of the incident, Sunita explained that she was out of town, visiting Khatu Shyam temple without Govinda’s knowledge, while their son Yash was in Bangkok. “The day he was shot, I was meditating in the morning. Govinda was supposed to leave for Kolkata for Durga Puja. My driver called me twice during my meditation, which is unusual. I suspect Govinda must have told him to call me,” she said.

When she finally picked up, her first question was, “Who shot him?” The driver assured her it was an accident. Sunita rushed back to Mumbai. “Even when I got there, I asked him, ‘Did you shoot yourself deliberately? It didn’t even hit you where it should have.’ He joked, ‘You must be very happy.’ I replied with a laugh, ‘I would have been happy if it hit your chest.’”

Their daughter, Tina Ahuja, took charge of the situation, rushing Govinda to a hospital in Mumbai. “When the incident happened, his servant, driver, and bodyguard were at the house, while Tina was asleep in the flat. I called her, and she immediately took him to the hospital. I stayed on the phone the entire time, getting updates,” Sunita shared.

When asked about Govinda’s recovery, Sunita quipped, referencing his recent appearance on Netflix, “He’s dancing now! I thought he’d still be limping, but that’s all healed.”
