Dubai Teen Tackles Digital Divide with ‘Skill Leap’ Project Launch in Bihar, India

In an extraordinary display of passion and innovation, Kavin Khanna, an enterprising student from Jumeirah College in Dubai, UAE, launched the Skill Leap Project in September 2023, in a remarkable collaboration with KCS Foundation India. This groundbreaking initiative is dedicated to uplifting underprivileged students from remote areas of Bihar, India, by imparting essential digital literacy and advanced skill development.

Recognizing the critical need for digital education in government schools, Kavin spearheaded the establishment of a state-of-the-art computer laboratory, outfitted with 20 cutting-edge computers. Aptly named Skill Leap, the project symbolizes a giant leap forward in bridging educational disparities and fostering technological proficiency. This vibrant learning hub operates under the vigilant guidance of three locally appointed teachers who enthusiastically mentor students throughout the weekdays.

Exemplifying unmatched commitment and dedication, Kavin personally engages with students every weekend via interactive online sessions from Dubai. Reinforcing this hands-on approach, Kavin made a significant visit to Bihar on 8th April 2025, directly interacting with students and teachers, evaluating the project’s progress, and inspiring young minds through motivational sessions and interactive workshops.

Since its inception, the Skill Leap Project has sparked remarkable transformations in students’ lives, visibly enhancing their digital skills, academic confidence, and overall enthusiasm for learning. The initiative’s impact is nothing short of profound, clearly demonstrating the powerful outcomes achievable through targeted educational interventions.

Fundraising nearly $10,000 from a diverse group of supporters, Kavin’s initiative has garnered extensive community backing, reflecting widespread recognition of its immense value. Motivated by the outstanding success of the initial lab, Kavin now plans to expand the Skill Leap Project, establishing additional computer labs across other regions. To date, the initiative has positively impacted 2,700 students, dramatically broadening their educational and career possibilities.

The curriculum meticulously designed by Kavin covers critical areas such as digital literacy, fundamental computer operations, artificial intelligence (AI), coding, and practical banking skills. These competencies are tailored not only to enable participation in the digital economy but also to empower students to excel within it, significantly reducing educational and technological disparities.

Reflecting on his vision, Kavin articulated, “Skill Leap is more than just a project; it is a bridge to a brighter future. My mission is to empower these young minds with skills that can transform their lives and help them succeed in a rapidly evolving digital world.”

The Skill Leap Project operates under the expert guidance and supervision of Mr. Gautam Kumar, Executive Director-Livelihood, Education & Humanitarian Action at KCS Foundation Bihar, India.

Kavin Khanna’s remarkable dedication highlights the immense potential of young leaders to drive substantial societal change, transcending geographical barriers and inspiring a new generation to dream, innovate, and lead.
